Trump’s Speech to the Boy Scouts May Have Broken Boy Scout Rules

On Monday evening, President Trump addressed the Boy Scouts of America’s annual Jamboree, but such an event mayhave violated its own rules.

Under the “Policy on Scout Participation in Political Events” clause of its guide, it reads the following (via New York Times Washington correspondent Binyamin Appelbaum):

Uniformed unit members and leaders may participate in flag ceremonies at political events and may lead the Pledge of Allegiance; however, they should retire after the ceremony and not remain on the speaker’s platform or in a conspicuous location where attendees or views could construe their presence as an endorsement or symbol of support. in addition, photos of candidates or Scouts in uniform or with BSA marks and logos are not allowed in political campaign materials of any kind.

As you can see in the photo above, a uniformed leader was prominently positioned on the speaker’s platform.

While it’s debatable whether or not this speech was considered a “political event,” Trump did take the opportunity to boast about his 2016 election victory and pushed his agenda to repeal and replace Obamacare.
