Twitter Debate Rages About Whether It’s Cool to Poke Fun at Don Jr. Over Divorce: ‘Really Weird’

In case you’ve been living under a big ol’ rock, you’ve already heard the news that Donald Trump, Jr. and Vanessa Trump are getting a divorce.
People on Twitter are quite divided about whether it’s alright to mock Don Jr. for his wife’s decision to split from him. The eldest child of President Donald Trump is not a terribly well-liked figure, and has been known to say some pretty divisive and hateful things — including an extremely ill-advised metaphor involving Skittles.
Some have been steadfast in their belief that it is wrong to take jabs at the soon-to-be divorcée, especially because of his five children:
Vanessa Trump and Don Jr. have five children. Leftists should think about the pain this divorce will cause them before gleefully tweeting about a family tragedy.

Please respect the privacy of President Trump’s grandchildren. They’re kids and deserve to not be your clickbait. Thank you.

I don’t care much for Don Jr., but a decent person doesn’t piss on a family when they’re going through struggles. And since I consider myself a decent person, Matthew 7:12 applies here.

Very disheartened to see many in media covering the Don Jr divorce news with glee, making jokes and memes about it. Divorce is sad and hard on kids, I speak from experience. Let’s have some sympathy and restraint.

Really weird and upsetting to see folks acting gleeful at the Don Jr. divorce news. It’s his private life and he has five kids. Leave it alone.
I don’t care how bad my ratio ends up.

Others, however, declared open season on Don Jr., tweeting all manner of jokes:
Look out, #Tinder. #DonJr https://t.co/Bd3MLr4m6U

Don Jr is by all accounts a horrible person who spreads conspiracy theories, flirts with white nationalist bs, and appears to have cheated on his wife. The idea that his divorce is some sort of tragedy for his family is pretty silly.

.@DonaldJTrumpJr It’s almost as though your wife doesn’t want to be married to a treasonous, trophy-hunting, douchebag who is out to prove on a daily basis what a complete bombastic boor he can be.

How long until we find out Don Jr. was cheating on his wife? Like father, like son! https://t.co/gZdNwAOPu3

Look, just cuz you can’t come up with any good jokes about Don Jr.’s wife leaving him, doesn’t mean you have to be a prick and say the rest of us shouldn’t have fun with it.

Five bucks says Tomi Lahren and Don Jr. are abusing animals together by summer.

my parents’ marriage was an exploding radioactive toilet and they split up when i was small and it fucked up my childhood for a long time. also lol Don Jr is a fuckin loser and his divorce is hilarious
— Albert Burneko (@AlbertBurneko) March 16, 2018
I figured out the worst twitter and it’s earnest pundits mad at people for making Don Jr. divorce memes
— eve peyser (@evepeyser) March 16, 2018
Really weird and upsetting to see folks acting gleeful at the news Don Jr. castrated his father then consumed his children Cronus-like until being tricked by his wife into throwing them up. It’s his private life and he has five kids. Leave it alone.

I don’t find any joy in Don Jr.’s divorce and don’t understand why others do…
*sees he murdered an elephant*
*sees he murdered other animals*
*sees he bullied a 14 yo girl online*
Okay now I understand why others do.
