TX Governor: Police ‘May Have Gone Too Far’ in Cuffing Ahmed Mohamed

abbottTexas Governor Greg Abbott spoke out today about the arrest of student Ahmed Mohamed, the teenager who was handcuffed for bringing in a homemade clock that law enforcement mistook for a bomb. Mohamed was let go, and unlike the clock, the story really blew up and people across the country shared their support for him.

The mayor of the Texas town where this took place defended how the police treated Mohamed, but Abbott reacted differently today.

According to The Dallas Morning News, Abbott said, “The last thing we want to do is put handcuffs on a kid unjustifiably. It looks like commitment to law enforcement may have gone too far.”

He added that the police didn’t do a good job balancing safety and defending civil rights in this instance.
