U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power Snarks at BuzzFeed for Mocking Her Tweeting
On Thursday morning, BuzzFeed political reporter Andrew Kaczynski decided to poke fun at a social media trope: The banal politician tweet about meeting another dignitary and having a productive discussion, hashtag something important.
His tweet sums it up pretty neatly:
Tweet like a politician: Enjoyed meeting with @ mention about #hashtag (picture attached) #additonalhashtag

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power took notice and decided to get snarky back at Kaczynski:
.@BuzzFeedAndrew Guilty as charged! Worse than tweeting like a #BuzzFeedReporter tho? "52 ways to know you work @ BuzzFeed. AND 6 cat pics!"

If you’re wondering why a U.S. ambassador felt the need to mock a BuzzFeed reporter, it’s likely because Power is a frequent committer of the yawn-worthy social media practice he lampooned:
Met w/#Mali For. Minister Diop after #UNSC session today. Discussed need for peace talks ASAP—only way out of crisis. pic.twitter.com/4Yn59J60CT

Great mtg with King Abdullah II. Deeply value #Jordan's partnership on #UNSC & its support for peace across region. pic.twitter.com/4dMPEWloh2

This isn’t the first time Obama officials have snarled at BuzzFeed. Back in 2012, when the viral content site posted about the Obama campaign’s typeface (a goofy story, indeed), the president’s flack Ben LaBolt responded: “Your GOP operative should have had the courtesy to stay sober before noon, and BuzzFeed should go back to labeling cat slideshows.”
