Virginia Gubernatorial Candidate Calls Trump a ‘Narcissistic Maniac’
Virginia’s Democrat Lt. Governor Ralph Northam called President Donald Trump a “narcissistic maniac” in a new campaign ad.
The former pediatrician and Army veteran is running in the June Democratic primary for governor of the Old Dominion state against populist Democrat Tom Perriello.
In a campaign ad this month entitled “Listening,” Northam described his support for an assault weapons ban and closing of the so-called “gun show loophole” in the aftermath of the Virginia Tech shooting: “I saw what those weapons could do as an Army doctor during the Gulf War,” he said.
Northam then pivoted to the president: “Now, I’m listening carefully to Donald Trump. And I think he’s a narcissistic maniac.”
“Whatever you call him, we’re not letting him bring his hate into Virginia,” Northam declared.
Northam ramped up his anti-Trump rhetoric after Perriello entered into the race. The Lt. Governor has repeatedly referred to the president as a “narcissistic maniac,” turning the phrase into something of a mantra, as Politico notes.
