WATCH: Massive Sinkhole Opens Up in Middle of Busy Bangkok Street

Viral footage from Bangkok, Thailand, shows an inner city intersection thrown into chaos early Wednesday as a sinkhole opened up on a major road, swallowing cars and electricity poles.

The collapse, which damaged three vehicles but caused no injuries, occurred near a hospital and directly outside a police station.

Outpatient services have reportedly been suspended for two days, while residents in surrounding buildings were ordered to evacuate.

Governor Chadchart Sittipunt confirmed that officials believe the disaster was linked to “an ongoing construction of an underground train station.”

He insisted “relevant authorities are working to fix the hole as fast as they could” amid fears that monsoon rains could worsen the damage.

Multiple clips, however, are now circulating online showing cars scrambling to reverse and pedestrians fleeing as the asphalt sank beneath them.
