Who Is Dark Knight Shooter James Holmes?

A 24-year-old man named James Holmes has been identified as the suspected shooter involved in this morning’s shooting at an Aurora, Colorado screening of The Dark Knight Rises. Holmes’ North Aurora apartment (shown at left as authorities conduct their investigation), which some reports indicate might be owned by his parents, is about 5 miles from the Century 16 theater where the shooting took place.

The FBI has shared that Holmes is a white male standing 6 feet, 3 inches tall. He was born on Dec. 13, 1987. In addition, he is suspected to have acted alone, with his motive not yet known.

According to NBC News justice correspondent Pete Williams, the young man has no prior police record (save for a recent traffic ticket), and his parents live in San Diego, California.

Update: Holmes recently moved to Colorado from San Diego, California, and the AP reports that Holmes withdrew from the University of Colorado just last month, where he had been studying as a medical student.
