Adam Kinzinger Chokes Backs Tears as He Tears Into Republican Colleagues Over Jan. 6: ‘This Cannot Be a Partisan Fight’

Rep. Adam Kinzinger choked backed tears as he lauded police officers testifying before the Congressional Select Committee investigating the events of January 6th before lacing into the partisan politics of his Republican colleagues.

The Illinois Republican member of Congress was a late addition to the committee after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy pulled other Republican appointments in protest of Speaker Nancy Pelosi’sunprecedented” blocking of Representatives Jim Banks and Jim Jordan.

“I never expected today to be quite as emotional for me as it has been,” Kinzinger opened. “I have talked to a number of you and gotten to know you. I think it’s important to tell you right now, though, you guys may individually feel a little broken because I’ll talk about the effects you have to deal with and you talked about the impact of that day,” he added, his voice breaking with emotions. “You guys won. You guys held.”

“Democracies are not defined by our bad days. We’re defined by how we come back from bad days, how we take accountability for that,” he added, pivoting to what he called “overheated rhetoric “surrounding this committee. “Our mission is very simple. It is to find the truth and it is to ensure accountability. ”

“Like most Americans, I’m frustrated that six months after a deadly insurrection breached the United States Capitol for several hours on live television, we still don’t know exactly what happened and why? Because many in my party have treated this as just another partisan fight,” he added. “It is toxic and a disservice to the officers and their families, to the staff and employees of the capitol complex, and to the American people who deserve the truth and to those generations before us who went to war to defend self-governance.”

“That’s is what is at stake and why I agreed to serve on this committee,” he said. “I want to know what happened that day but more importantly I want all Americans to be able to trust the work this committee does and get the facts out there free of conspiracy. This cannot continue to be a partisan fight.”
