The House of Representatives killed a resolution seeking to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) on Wednesday.

Brought by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), the resolution accused Tlaib of “antisemitic activity” and “sympathizing with terrorist organizations.” It also accused her of “leading an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol complex.”

The motion to table carried after 222 members voted in favor, with 183 opposed. Twenty-three Republicans, including Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), joined with Democrats in killing the censure.

Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American in Congress, has received criticism from Republicans over her support for Palestine and her criticism of Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, which have killed more than 8,000 people — the majority woman and children — according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

Last month, Tlaib came under fire for displaying the Palestinian flag outside her office. While the flag had long been on display, critics argued that the flag should have been taken down following the October 7 Hamas terrorist attacks, and Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) introduced an amendment in an attempt to force Tlaib to take the flag down.

On Wednesday, ahead of votes to censure both Tlaib and Greene, Miller said, “Marjorie Taylor Greene has said anti-Semitic remarks. Rashida Tlaib has said anti-Semitic remarks. I’m going to call it out on both sides of the aisle. I’m sick of it.”

House Democrats, meanwhile, suggested that the resolution against Tlaib was a racist attack.

Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-FL) said, “They want to censure her because she’s brown,” while Tlaib called the resolution “deeply Islamophobic.”

In a statement ahead the vote, Tlaib wrote:

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s unhinged resolution is deeply Islamophobic and attacks peaceful Jewish anti-war advocates. I am proud to stand in solidarity with Jewish peace advocates calling for a ceasefire and an end to the violence. I will not be bullied, I will not be dehumanized, and I will not be silenced. I will continue to call for ceasefire, for the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid, for the release of hostages and those arbitrarily detained, and for every American to be brought home. I will continue to work for a just and lasting peace that upholds the human rights and dignity of all people, and ensures that no person, no child has to suffer or live in fear of violence.

A proposed resolution to censure Greene “for her racist, homophobic, transphobic, antisemitic remarks, and unhinged conspiracy theories” was dropped on Wednesday after the attempt to censure Tlaib failed.
