‘Bullsh*t!’ David Axelrod Shreds Anonymous Biden Aide for Claiming the President Would Have Won

Former Obama administration adviser David Axelrod ripped an anonymous staffer who claimed President Joe Biden would have won reelection had he not been pressured to step aside.

Vice President Kamala Harris lost to former President Donald Trump last week, less than four months after Biden ended his reelection bid. After a disastrous debate performance in June, Biden ended his run weeks later, and the party coalesced around Harris. Ultimately, however, most voters did not believe she would be a meaningful departure from Biden’s unpopular presidency.

On the most recent episode of the Hacks on Tap podcast, Axelrod pointed to remarks from an anonymous Biden aide who said the president should have stayed in the race. The aide said Obama staffers deterred Biden from running in 2016 so as to clear the field for Hillary Clinton.

“I read a quote from an unnamed Biden aide saying… the Obama people ran Biden out in 2016, and he would have beaten Trump. And they ran him out again this time,” he said on Thursday’s episode. “And he would have beaten Trump again. Bullshit!”

“I agree,” co-host Mike Murphy replied.

“Don’t I don’t hide,” Axelrod continued. “Come out to the daylight and say what you have to say. Put your name under it, and then let’s have a discussion about it. But don’t be such a sniveling little coward that you put an unnamed quote out there saying what is absolutely bullshit. Look at the guy! Look at the guy!”

Before he dropped out, Biden, 81, was slated to become the oldest major party nominee for president in U.S. history. Upon ending his reelection, that distinction went to Trump, 78.
