C-SPAN Caller Lays Into Rep Al Green Over Trump Impeachment Plan: ‘All Y’all Can Do Is Complain and Be Negative!’
A CSPAN caller ripped into Rep. Al Green (D-TX) this week over his move to attempt to impeach President Donald Trump.
On Wednesday, Green declared on the House floor that he was introducing articles of impeachment against Trump for “dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done,” specifically his talk of the United States taking control of Gaza.
“I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done,” he said.
On C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, Green defended his plan against a caller who accused Democrats of only being about to “complain and be negative” under Trump. The caller, identified as a man named Richard from Savannah, also claimed USAID, which Trump is shutting down, is a “money laundering” operation.
Check out the exchange below:
CSPAN CALLER: “I watched you yesterday with the Democrat Party out protesting everything that Elon Musk is trying to do for the American people. The USAID is 100% a money laundering scheme around the world. Kickbacks back to the Democrat Party, whether it’s to the Clinton Foundation and Haiti, $4.4 billion, and $84 million went to her daughter, Chelsea Clinton. All y’all have is impeachments and race and gender, etc. and you actually do nothing for the people of America today. I think the Democrats should sit back and let. America. See what it’s like to reduce the people in government the wasteful spending. And all y’all can do is just complain and be negative. And we’re sick of it.”
GRETA BRAWNER: “Let’s let’s have the congressman respond to your argument there. Congressman Green.”
AL GREEN: “I’m appreciative that you called, sir, because it’s about more than USAID, which came into being by way of an executive order from President Kennedy. And the president has authorities there that he doesn’t have with the Department of Education. But look at what he’s doing to the CIA and to the FBI. And he’s doing it because he wants to be in total control of any agency that might investigate. If you recall, he fired Comey, the FBI director, because Comey was investigating him. When we did not impeach him for that act, he now takes a license to try to eviscerate to the extent that he can, to gut these other agencies, the FBI more specifically, and the CIA. So the question is, aside what you said about USAID, which can be refuted, but the question is, do you want a president who has been immune, given some degree of immunity by the Supreme Court, who now knows that he can pardon people who participated in an insurrection and send that signal to others? So he is above the law to a certain extent. He has the power to pardon, which means that if you commit a crime, a federal crime, you can be pardoned by him. Do you want a person to have that kind of power such that he now is reckless and ruthless with it? This is serious business. And I believe that the way he is going about this is not just to purge, but to prevent any one from standing up to him who is going to stand up to the president in the FBI when you know that the president can fire you with.”
