CNN’s Bakari Sellers Dismisses Rising Black Voter Support for Trump: ‘I Want To Go Ahead and Sell You That Bridge in Brooklyn’

CNN political analyst Bakari Sellers dismissed the idea that a significant amount of Black voters will run to support Donald Trump in 2024 and that the Democratic Party may have a “base problem.”

On CNN This Morning, a recent New York Times/Siena College poll was mentioned which showed Trump with 23% support among Black voters, a 19% jump from late 2020.

“If you believe that 23% of Black voters are going to vote for Donald Trump, I just want to go ahead and sell you that bridge in Brooklyn,” Sellers said on Wednesday.

“So why are they telling pollsters that they will?” Kasie Hunt asked.

Sellers argued such polls should be looked at closer and acknowledged “discontentment” among Black voters with President Joe Biden, but insisted that talk of Trump’s support significantly rising with voters of color can be chalked up to social media-level chatter. He further claimed Democrats do not have a “base problem” and are not threatened by Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., or other candidates.

“Is there discontentment among Black voters with what they’re seeing in Washington D.C.? The answer is yes. Is there a question or a disconnect between the policies that have been passed and whether or not they feel it in their pocket? The answer is yes,” he said. “But we have to get out of this social media bubble where people run to the fact that Meek Mill is out here tweeting something that is pro-Trump or pro-Republican talking, or Killer Mike is out here traversing the land with Robert F. Kennedy and all of a sudden we’re saying Democrats have this base problem. That is not the case.”
