NBC’s Andrea Mitchell was ruthlessly mocked online for commending the administration of former President Joe Biden for its role in President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace deal.
Last week, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to a ceasefire. The temporary pause on fighting led to the release of hostages on both sides — the first phase of the proposed plan to bring peace to the region.
On Monday, the president traveled to Egypt for a summit with other world leaders. There, he and others signed a peace agreement.
Days after Trump’s initial announcement of the ceasefire, former U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken posted a lengthy thread on X/Twitter commending the Trump administration for its work. In the thread, Blinken noted that Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza “adopted and built on the plan the Biden Administration developed.”
Mitchell said as much when she thanked Blinken for the work of the previous administration.
“Thank you for spending two years working toward this moment,” she said in a tweet, “creating the basis for the agreement once the two sides were finally prepared to compromise – we hope!”
That response was roundly mocked online.
At the time of writing, Mitchell had not responded to the backlash she received online.
