Trump and Harris Tie in Dixville Notch After Entire Population of Six Casts Vote at Midnight
Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris each received 50% of the vote in Dixville Notch on Tuesday after the tiny New Hampshire community with a population of six cast their ballots at midnight.
In the community of four registered Republicans and two undeclared voters, three people voted for Trump, while the other three voted for Harris.
The results were called by CNN at 12:12 a.m. – just twelve minutes after polls opened.
In attendance were a large group of reporters who significantly outnumbered the residents in the small New Hampshire community.
“Donald Trump, three. Kamala Harris, three,” declared CNN national correspondent Gary Tuchman after the final ballot was counted. “We have been talking about how close this race is with the polls in the United States. Some people say it’s 50-50. We can tell you officially, in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, population six, it is 50-50 on the nose.”
CNN anchor Boris Sanchez weighed in, “It just underscores, as Gary Tuchman was saying, how divided the nation is and how close this 2024 presidential election is. In poll after poll, in polls of polls, CNN has found this race too close to call and you see it illustrated there. The first results that we’re getting on election day, leading to a tie.”
Dixville Notch has a long tradition of opening its polls at midnight on election day and has historically been the first community to declare results.
In 2020, President Joe Biden won Dixville Notch with 100% of the vote. In 2016, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received the most votes in the community, beating Trump 2:1.
