Fox News Guest Pushes Bonkers Theory Democrats Might Invent ‘A New Covid’ to Keep Biden Off Debate Stage

Thursday’s Outnumbered guest host on Fox News said that Democrats are so worried about President Joe Biden being able to perform in a debate that they might go to any extreme to prevent it from happening — even to “figure out a new covid” to get him out of it.

Radio and podcast host Ben Ferguson argued with Outnumbered co-host and the only Democrat in the room Marie Harf about poor poll numbers and whether ex-president Donald Trump will be on a debate stage with Biden, should they each win their party’s nomination.

Trump has dodged Republican primary debates but, Ferguson said, there’s no question he’d debate Biden because he’ll expect it to be easy.

When Harf said that Biden’s bad poll numbers are troubling but that she thinks he’s done a lot for the country and should be reelected, Ferguson responded, “Then get on the stage and debate!”

“He will!” said Harf, who then made a side bet with Emily Compagno on the subject.

“He will not,” Ferguson insisted. “Donald Trump’s going to get on stage and debate. And you could be one of the worst debaters in the world and Joe Biden is still a lay-up for anyone. You can find high school debaters that could debate him!”

“It wasn’t last time,” Harf said, referring to the 2020 debate which Republican 2024 rival Gov. Ron DeSantis recently said left him “speechless” over how thoroughly Biden beat Trump.

Ferguson continued, saying, “The Democratic Party is going to look at that moment and say, I cannot put this man on stage. How the hell do we get out of it?”

“And they’re going to do everything they can to get out of it,” he said. “Maybe they’ll figure out a new covid to get out of it because there’s nothing they won’t do to get him off that stage. He would be decimated by anybody.”

“It’s true,” replied co-host Kayleigh McEnany.

Ferguson’s wisecrack was alluding to the idea that a debate would have to be canceled if there were heavy covid-like restrictions like social distancing and masking, and played on right-wing conspiracy theories that Democrats manipulated government to inflate the Covid-19 threat in 2020 so Biden could avoid too much public speaking. Here is the full transcript:

HARF: If Donald Trump is convicted of a crime, nationally in a general election, I think his approval ratings will also go down. So we are deciding between two people. Look, I think Joe Biden has done so much for this country, should be reelected. Voters don’t like politicians at all, right?

FERGUSON: Then get on stage and debate. They get on sta–.

HARF: He will!

FERGUSON: He will not. Look, there’s three things I would say is quickly, number one…

HARF: We can bet on it, he will.

COMPAGNO: I’ll take that bet.

HARF: Okay, we’ll take that bet.

FERGUSON: CNN literally says, when they’re talking about his low approval rating: he’s been there for a while. That’s CNN saying that. So it’s more than a problem. It’s an oh, you know what moment for him.

Number two: Absolutely. Donald Trump’s going to get on stage and debate. And you could be one of the worst debaters in the world and Joe Biden is still a lay-up for anyone. You can find high school debaters that could debate him.

HARF: It wasn’t last time.

FERGUSON: And the Democratic Party is going to look at that moment and say, I cannot put this man on stage. How the hell do we get out of it? And they’re going to do everything they can to get out of it. Maybe they’ll figure out a new covid to get out of it because there’s nothing they won’t do to get him off that stage. He would be decimated by anybody.

MCENANY: It’s true. I will underscore Marie’s point. These are polls. Polls have been wrong, but hey, warning sign indeed.
