Actor Gabrielle Union tweeted a gif of her character from the 2000 cheerleading film Bring It On shortly after news broke that Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) had lost his seat as Speaker of the House.

Union included McCarthy’s original tweet to rival Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) that stated the movie’s title: “Bring it On.”

The movie’s premise revolved around a fierce cheerleading rivalry that pitted Union’s character against one played by Kirsten Dunst.

McCarthy posted his tweet Monday, as Gaetz threatened to push a vote to vacate the speaker’s seat. The MAGA Republican continued to troll McCarthy by agreeing with posts declaring McCarthy broke his promises to the GOP that won him the speakership in the first place.

Some notable media figures piled on Union’s tweet.

Last month, Gaetz took to the House floor to air his grievances with McCarthy.

“Instead of cutting spending to raise the debt limit, you relied on budgetary gimmicks and rescissions so that you ultimately ended up serving as the valet to underwrite Biden’s debt and advance his spending agenda,” Gaetz said.

McCarthy then met with his caucus and reportedly dared the mutineers to stop threatening and “move the fucking motion” to have him removed.

Gaetz’s final straw came over the weekend after McCarthy made a deal with Democrats on a spending bill meant to keep the government from shutting down. Gaetz forced the vote on Tuesday, and McCarthy lost his speakership with 216 Yeas (to remove McCarthy) and 210 Nays (not to remove McCarthy).

CNN’s Manu Raju described the House as being in “a complete state of paralysis” and could remain that way until a permanent replacement is voted in.
