Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) said his state is not shooting migrants who enter from its border with Mexico because President Joe Biden would charge the shooters with murder.
Abbott joined Friday’s edition of The Dana Loesch Show, where he discussed his efforts to combat illegal immigration. The governor has repeatedly clashed with President Joe Biden on border and immigration policy.
One action he has not taken is shooting people who cross the border illegally. He explained:
We are using every tool that can be used, from building a border wall to building these border barriers to passing this law that I signed that led to another lawsuit by the Biden administration where I signed a law making it illegal for somebody to enter Texas from another country. And so– and they’re subject to arrest and subject to deportation. And so, we are deploying every tool and strategy that we possibly can. The only thing that we’re not doing is we’re not shooting people who come across the border because, of course, the Biden administration would charge us with murder.
In December, Abbott signed legislation into law making illegal immigration a state crime and also approved $1.54 billion for the construction of barriers along its 1,200-mile border with Mexico. The governor has been busing undocumented migrants to Democratic-run cities including New York, which has responded by suing the bus companies who transported the migrants to the city.
