Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) said Friday he wants Elon Musk to realign with the Democratic Party, despite months of many on the left branding the billionaire a “Nazi.”
Amid Musk’s public breakup with President Donald Trump, Khanna apparently sees an opening for Musk’s cash and influence.
The Tesla CEO and Trump spent Thursday and Friday attacking each other in a feud that many expected to come sooner than it did.
Semafor’s David Weigel reported Khanna reached out to one of Musk’s “senior confidants” before the Dust had settled Thursday.
The California Democrat told Weigel on Friday, “Having Elon speak out against the irrational tariff policy, against the deficit exploding Trump bill, and the anti-science and anti-immigrant agenda can help check Trump’s unconstitutional administration.”
Khanna added, “I look forward to Elon turning his fire against MAGA Republicans instead of Democrats in 2026.”
Many prominent progressives have spent months slamming Musk for his work with Trump’s DOGE.
Others have blasted him all year over a perceived Nazi-style salute that put the spotlight on him during a Trump inauguration celebration.
Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) quickly called it a “nazi salute” on CNN, saying, “He didn’t just do it one time—he did it twice for emphasis.”
“If you talk to anyone like historians, folks actually study the Nazis and study this actual kind of disgusting display, they’ve been very clear about what that was,” Garcia added. “He should not just apologize. He should be condemned for those kinds of actions. So gross.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) also blasted Musk, telling her social media followers, “In this country, we fight Nazis. We don’t celebrate them.” She added:
This is the United States of America. And I don’t care what Elon Musk is doing behind a presidential seal. In this country, we hate Nazis. Kind of like a foundational, defining thing.
Two of probably the most foundational, defining things about American history is that we beat the Confederates and we beat the Nazis. And I don’t know what side people may be on today, but I still am not rocking with anyone sympathetic to Nazis.
Meanwhile, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) later referred to Musk as a “Nazi nepo baby.”
In February, she stated of Musk, “Elon Musk isn’t elected. He’s a Nazi nepo baby who breaks everything he touches. And right now he’s locked himself in a room with grandpa’s Social Security check.”
