‘It’s an Asinine Argument!’ Nicolle Wallace Flames Nikki Haley’s Campaign Strategy

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace went off on Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, saying that the former South Carolina governor’s campaign origin story is “asinine.”

Haley, who served as former President Donald Trump’s ambassador to the U.N., is the last remaining challenger to the former president, who is steamrolling his way to the Republican nomination. On Tuesday night, Trump was in line for a spate of victories on Super Tuesday and already notched victories in Virginia and North Carolina, according to projections as of this writing.

Haley has criticized Trump, but has said he was “the right president at the right time.” However, Haley has suggested Trump is not fit to return to the White House and that he will be distracted by the ongoing criminal cases against him.

During MSNBC’s Super Tuesday coverage, the network’s talent discussed this dynamic.

“She was first introduced as a Trump appointee,” Ari Melber said. “And so, she did have to evolve that story over time. And look, no one’s sitting here saying, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s sweeping tonight.’ But she did better than every other candidate, including those with money and buzz like [Ron] DeSantis. So, I think she did – with the team around her – figured, ‘Let’s tell this story of how you slowly over time lost faith with the person that you served, which is how people met you.”

Melber’s observation set off Wallace, who erupted with indignation:

WALLACE: Which, let me say, it’s ludicrous. The people that served with him are the ones who wanted to use the 25th Amendment. It’s like the most nonsensical argument you could ever make because all of the reporting on the 25th Amendment was all sourced back to Trump’s own cabinet!

MELBER: And she was there.

WALLACE: It’s an asinine argument! But it is what she argued!

At various points during the Trump administration – especially after the Jan. 6 insurrection – there were murmurs emanating from the White House about invoking the never-used 25th Amendment, which allows the cabinet to strip the president of his powers and make the vice president the “Acting President.”
