Former Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) pulled no punches on Wednesday morning in lambasting his own party’s leadership over their anti-Elon Musk rally on Tuesday evening, clips from which went viral online for all the wrong reasons.

Ryan shared a viral clip of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer leading a “We Will Win!” chant alongside Reps. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Al Green (D-TX).

Ryan, who lost a 2022 race for U.S. Senate in Ohio, has long been seen as a rising star in the party, who can reach independents and working-class voters.

“I just don’t even know what to say anymore when I see this kind of stuff,” Ryan said while sharing the clip, adding:

Is it Saturday Night Live or real life? Does anyone really think this is the future of the country? This is the only alternative to Trump’s America? It’s just so depressing.

Schumer and other Congressional Democrats held a rally outside the Treasury Department on Tuesday to protest Elon Musk gaining control over the department’s payment system.

“He has access to all our information, our social security numbers, the federal payment system. What’s going to stop him from stealing taxpayer money?” Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) told the crowd.

Other House members raised eyebrows for their more bombastic speeches. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), for example, called Musk “a Nazi nepo baby.” President Donald Trump’s online rapid response team shared clips from the rally to jab the Democrats. “Shut down the city! We are at war!” says Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ), noted the account in one post covering the event.
