MSNBC’s Joy Reid Asks Dem Lawmaker If GOP Colleagues ‘Want to Get FBI Agents Killed’
MSNBC’s Joy Reid asked Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) if her Republican colleagues want to “get FBI agents killed” following a fiery House hearing this week centered on testimony from Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Dean joined Reid on Tuesday following the tense hearing where Garland clashed with multiple lawmakers, including Republicans focused on Donald Trump’s recent conviction in Manhattan on more than 30 felony counts related to falsifying business records.
Reid played a clip from the hearing where Garland said talk about a supposed order approving of the killing of Trump during the raid on his Mar-a-Lago property. The attorney general called any such accusation “dangerous” and “false.” Garland said the order was “standard use of force protocol, which is a limitation on the use of force which is routinely part of the package for search warrants.”
According to Garland, the accusation has led to a massive uptick in threats against FBI and Justice Department officials.
The former president previously claimed in a fundraising email that President Joe Biden was “locked & loaded ready to take me out & put my family in danger,” referring to the FBI raid on his Florida property. Authorities were looking for classified documents and the language in the order that Trump is referring to is standard language.
Trump also referred to escaping death in another fundraising pitch.
The order allows agents to “use deadly force only when necessary, that is, when the officer has a reasonable belief that the subject of such force poses an imminent danger of death or serious physical injury to the officer or to another person.”
“Your colleagues know that, don’t they?” Reid asked Dean.
“Sure they do,” the lawmaker said.
“Why would they do this? Do they want to get FBI agents killed?” Reid asked.
Dean did not directly answer this question, but accused her Republican colleagues of “spewing misinformation and lies” in an effort to “deceive” voters on Trump.
“In service of one man, one now felon, 34 counts. I’m so proud of the New York system, that the rule of law held, that we had by all reports from reporters in in the courtroom, the judge, the lawyers on both sides, prosecutor and defense, and 12 citizens, strangers who did their job, they listened to the evidence, they applied the rule of law, and they came back with clarity, 34 felony convictions against a former president,” she said.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is one such Republican colleague who has claimed Biden was trying to “assassinate” Trump.
“The Biden DOJ and FBI were planning to assassinate Pres Trump and gave the green light. Does everyone get it yet???!!!! What are Republicans going to do about it?” she wrote on X, exclaiming that she “made sure” Trump was aware.
