‘This Is Not Acceptable!’ German Defense Minister Fumes at JD Vance For Comparing European Allies to Authoritarian Regimes

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius slammed Vice President JD Vance for comparing European allies to authoritarian regimes during a bomb-throwing Friday speech.

While addressing the Munich Security Conference, Vance criticized U.S. allies by accusing them of attacking free speech before claiming the greatest threat to Europe was not from Russia or China. The vice president claimed preserving free speech and fighting mass migration is the most urgent challenge for the continent.

Before attending the conference, Vance met with the leader of the far-right German AfD party Alice Weidel. The meeting occurred outside the conference because the controversial party was not allowed to attend. Billionaire Elon Musk has previously offered praise for the far-right party, explicitly endorsing them.

“I cannot just ignore what we heard before. I cannot not comment on the speech We heard about the U.S. vice president,” Pistorius said in front of European leaders at the conference following Vance’s remarks. He added:

This democracy that was just called into question by the U.S. vice president. Not just for German democracy, but Europe as a whole. He spoke of the annulment of democracy. And if I understood him correctly, he compares the condition of Europe with the condition that prevails in some authoritarian regimes.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not acceptable! This is not acceptable! This is not the europe, not the democracy, where I live and where I can get more information campaign right now on this is not the democracy that I witness every day in our parliament. In our democracy, every opinion has a voice and it makes it possible for parties that are partly extremists such as the AfD, and they can campaign just as any other party. This is democracy.
