Trump Bizarrely Marks Up Jake Sherman Tweet Criticizing House Speaker Endorsement Mess: ‘Better Luck Next Time’

Former President Donald Trump criticized a social media post from Punchbowl’s Jake Sherman with the apparent help of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

At issue? The chaos surrounding the election of a new House Speaker, and, in particular, Sherman’s observation that Trump’s endorsements have not been as golden as the former president claims.

In an October 23 post to X, formerly Twitter, while the House GOP was still acting like a “carnival of idiots,”  Sherman wrote:

Truth: Trump’s endorsement doesn’t mean much in House GOP leadership races.

He supported Jordan, Jordan lost.

Trump Jr. supported Banks in Jan. Banks lost.

His operation doesn’t have a great feel for the Capitol — never has.

Maybe Trump wants Emmer to lose — maybe he doesn’t actually care. Emmer will win or lose on his own.

The following day, Tom Emmer won the Republican nomination for speakership. Still, Trump then absolutely shanked the moderate Republican’s bid by comparing him to Rep. Ilhan Omar in a Truth Social post designed to scare MAGA Republicans off Emmer. Four hours later, Emmer had ended his speaker bid.

So here’s where a weird story gets more bizarre. Greene quoted Sherman’s criticism of Trump’s endorsement record, saying, “This explains the problem with the Capitol…” before embarking on a typically sycophantic ode to Trump. Someone then must have printed out Greene’s quote post and delivered it to Trump, who then apparently marked it up in his signature Sharpie pen, which was then scanned and promoted  by Greene in a snarky fashion:

Sherman pushed back in his own post: “So, to reiterate, endorsed Jordan. Jordan lost. Emmer was down 26 votes before Trump came out against him. Trump probably helped sink Emmer. Fair. He endorsed banks for leadership. Banks lost.”

Sherman is right. And this is of course a terrific promotion for Sherman’s incredible reporting throughout the House Speaker chaos and his outlet Punchbowl News.
