Trump Drops Papers He Just Signed and Mistakenly Refers to the U.K. as ‘The European Union’
President Donald Trump accidentally dropped several papers on the ground on Monday after announcing a new trade agreement with the United Kingdom, which he mistakenly referred to as “the European Union.”
During the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Canada, Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer delivered a joint press conference announcing their new trade deal.
“We all know the great prime minister of the U.K. and we just signed a document,” said Trump, opening his folder as several papers fell out. “Whoop. Sorry about that.”
“A very important document,” joked Starmer, who was forced to pick up the papers that Trump had dropped, as Trump remarked, “A little windy out here.”
Trump then proceeded to mistakenly refer to the U.K. as the European Union as Starmer looked on in silence.
“We just signed it and it’s done, and so we have our trade agreement with the European Union, and it’s a fair deal for both, gonna produce a lot of jobs, a lot of income, and we have many, many other ones coming,” said Trump. “But the relationship we have is fantastic so I just want to congratulate you.”
Starmer replied, “Donald, thank you very much. This now implements on car tariffs and aerospace, our really important agreement, so this is a very good day for both of our countries. A real sign of strength. So thank you again, Donald. A really important day for both of us.”
“Great people. Great people,” the president declared.
Later on in the press conference, Trump told a reporter, “The UK is very well protected. You know why? Because I like them. That’s why. That’s the ultimate protection.”
