Trump Joins Calls For RFK Jr. to Receive Secret Service Protection: ‘Obvious Right Thing To Do!’

Former President Donald Trump joined the call on Monday for independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to receive Secret Service protection following the attempt on his own life over the weekend.
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, “In light of what is going on in the world today, I believe it is imperative that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receive Secret Service protection — immediately. Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!”
Trump’s post comes two days after Colorado Governor Jared Polis (D) urged President Joe Biden to “immediately provide secret service protection” to RFK Jr. following the near-fatal shooting of Trump, in which a bullet grazed the former president’s ear.
Former Bush press secretary and Fox News contributor Ari Fleischer also posted soon after the shooting, “The Biden Administration should immediately provide Secret Service protection to RFK, Jr. it should have been done a long time ago.”
The Hill explained the criteria for which candidates receive protection, “The Secret Service is authorized to protect major presidential and vice presidential candidates and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election. The Homeland Security secretary, in consultation with an advisory committee of House and Senate leadership, determines which candidates are in that ‘major’ category.”
The Secret Service has come under immense fire in the wake of the assassination attempt on Trump given both how close the shooter came and the fact he shot from an unsecured rooftop as audience members looked on and tried to alert authorities.
