‘Definition of Do-Nothing’: Swalwell Brutally Mocks Republicans ‘Missing Votes’ So They Can Attend Their ‘Cult-Leader’s Trial’

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) chastised House Republicans who called hearings to decide whether to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress, yet failed to show up on Thursday so they could attend former President Donald Trump’s porn star hush money trial in New York instead.

“Well, it’s nice to see that some of my colleagues on the other side can make it today. I don’t know if that means there weren’t enough seats in the courtroom in New York,” Swalwell said. “But, I know the Oversight Committee canceled the meeting that was supposed to happen right now on this same matter so that they could be at the president’s trial. Some members will miss this vote ’cause they want to be at the president’s trial, and I don’t think anything could animate the phrase ‘do nothing Congress’ more than missing votes and canceling hearings to go up and be a spectator at your cult leader’s trial. That is the definition of ‘Do-nothing Congress.'”

Earlier Thursday, Fox News scrolled through the list of members of Congress who attended Trump’s trial Thursday. They included Reps. Mike Waltz (R-FL), Bob Good (R-VA), Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Michael Cloud (R-TX), and Andy Ogles (R-TN).

Many of the lawmakers spoke outside the Manhattan courthouse where they echoed Trump’s claims the trial is a “sham” and the judge is “corrupt.”

Gaetz bizarrely blasted the 34 felony charges against Trump as “the Mr. Potato Head doll of crimes, where they had to stick together a bunch of things that did not belong together.”

House Republicans want to hold Garland in contempt for “defying a lawful subpoena” from the classified documents case against President Joe Biden. Thursday, Biden invoked executive privilege to prevent the release of the recordings.
