Hot Mic Catches Trump Saying Putin ‘Wants to Make a Deal With Me’

President Donald Trump seems to have privately boasted to a fellow world leader that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin will make a deal with him, “as crazy as that sounds.”

A hot microphone picked up Trump’s comments just before a meeting with European leaders at the White House began on Monday afternoon, following a Friday summit Trump held in Alaska with his Russian counterpart.

“I think he wants to make a deal with me,” Trump could be heard saying to a fellow meeting attendee picked up by a microphone. “I don’t understand that, as crazy as it sounds.”

“Sit down. Sit down, everybody,” he concluded. “I think we’ll let the press come in for a minute.”

Now we cannot know for sure what Trump was specifically referencing, as he did not mention Putin by name nor a peace deal with Ukraine. However, given the context of the meeting with European leaders discussing a pathway towards peace between Russia and Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in attendance, this is likely what Trump was referring to.
