‘This Is Getting Ugly’: Former Federal Prosecutor Argues It May Be Time For Fani Willis to Remove Herself From Trump Case
Former federal prosecutor Chuck Rosenberg suggested that it may be time for Fani Willis to remove herself from the Trump GA election interference case after testimony revealed she may have lied to the court about the timing of her relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
Earlier Thursday, former “good friend” of Willis, Robin Yeartie, contradicted Willis’ claim about when her affair with Wade began. Under oath, Yeartie testified that she had “no doubt” the relationship began in 2019, not in 2021, after Wade was hired to work on the Trump case. This prompted MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell to ask, “If they misrepresented, basically lied to the court,” do you think that “they should voluntarily step aside?”
Rosenberg answered, “It’s a great question. So, this is not going well for the state. It could turn out okay, and it might turn out worse,” Rosenberg said, continuing:
But I think a district attorney, a U.S. Attorney, you know, a prosecuting official has a special obligation to the case…Prosecutors have a higher obligation. It’s not personal. It’s not egotistical, it’s not about you, it’s about the office and the pursuit of justice. To your point, it might be appropriate for Ms. Willis to consider removing herself from this case now, and turning the reins over to a senior official in the district attorney’s office and let him or her handle it. Because, this is getting ugly, it’s getting messy, and my guess is, it’s not going to get better.
Willis was accused of improperly hiring Wade and misusing public funds.
Willis has denied any wrongdoing.
