Former President Donald Trump said on social media Sunday afternoon he had considered delaying this week’s Republican National Convention by two days after Saturday’s failed assassination attempt against him.
Trump, who was shot in the ear by a man police have identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, said he would not let the harrowing brush with death prevent him from going ahead with his week as planned.
“Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else,” Trump originally posted on his Truth Social account.
He concluded, “Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled, at 3:30 P.M. TODAY. Thank you!”

Trump was addressing a large crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania, Saturday evening just after 6 p.m. ET when he was targeted by gunfire from a nearby rooftop. Police have not yet revealed a potential motive in the shooting.
Crooks was registered as a Republican in Pennsylvania but had previously donated a small amount of money to the progressive political action committee ActBlue.
Secret Service sharpshooters killed Crooks, but the 20-year-old wounded Trump and two others and killed a man named Corey Comperatore.
Comperatore was a devoted Trump supporter and was reportedly shielding his family from gunfire at the Butler rally when he was fatally wounded.
The Republican National Convention will begin on Monday evening in Milwaukee as scheduled and will conclude on Thursday.
