Donald Trump emphatically denounced U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan’s ruling in his first reaction to the partial gag order she placed on the former president.
The Trump campaign response began when Jason Miller got on X, the social media platform once known as Twitter, and declared, “Today’s decision is an absolute abomination.”
“Another partisan knife stuck in the heart of our Democracy by Crooked Joe Biden, who was granted the right to muzzle his political opponent, the leading candidate for the Presidency in 2024, and the most popular political leader in America,” Miller continued. “President Trump will continue to fight for our Constitution, the American people’s right to support him, and to keep our country free of the chains of weaponized and targeted law enforcement.”
Shortly thereafter, Trump got on Truth Social to blast the order and promise an appeal:
The gag order bars Trump from attacking Special Counsel Jack Smith’s prosecutors, court staff and potential witnesses as he awaits trial for accusations that he illegally conspired to overturn his 2020 election defeat. Chutkan imposed the ruling after a hearing on Monday where Smith’s team raised concerns that Trump’s incendiary public statements could compromise the integrity of the case.
Trump was previously gagged over his conduct pertaining to his civil business fraud case in Manhattan.
