Michigan Staffer at Center of Cheating Scandal May Have Gone Undercover at Central Michigan Game: ‘His Name Was on None of the Passes’

The University of Michigan staffer at the center of a sign-stealing investigation may have gone to a Central Michigan game undercover.

While the NCAA continues to investigate allegations that Michigan football benefited from an expansive sign-stealing operation, images have surfaced online seemingly depicting Connor Stalions — the staffer in question — on Central Michigan’s sidelines dressed as a coach.

Stalions was suspended by the university pending the results of the investigation. Sources from other schools have since revealed that he purchased tickets for more than 30 games over the last three years. An outside firm reportedly presented the NCAA with evidence that Stalions forwarded those tickets to other people to attend those games and record the play signs of Michigan’s future and potential opponents. According to sources, evidence of a travel budget and schedule was included.

Since news of the scandal broke, internet sleuths have begun watching footage of previous Michigan games in an effort to locate Stalions on the sideline.

That led to people noticing an unidentified man on Central Michigan’s sideline during a game. Some believe it’s Stalions dressed in full CMU gear.

On Tuesday, Central Michigan coach Jim McElwain confirmed that the school was investigating the individual spotted on his sideline.

“We obviously are aware of pictures floating around of the sign stealer guy,” he said to the media. “Our people are doing everything they can to get to the bottom of it. We’re unaware of it, totally unaware of it. I certainly don’t condone it in any way, shape or form.

“I do know that his name was on none of the passes that were let out. Now, we just keep tracing it back and tracing it back and trying to figure it out. But it’s in good hands with our people; and again, there’s no place in football for that.”
