Philadelphia Eagles Fan on Life Support After Falling from Light Pole Amid City-Wide Playoff Celebrations

An 18-year-old Philadelphia Eagles fan is in critical condition after falling from a light pole following the team’s recent playoff win.

The Eagles on Sunday defeated the NFC East rival Washington Commanders 55-23 to advance to the Super Bowl for the second time in the last three seasons. As a result of such a big win, the streets of Philadelphia were flooded with fans shortly after the game ended.

Repeating a tradition that seemingly began during the 2017 postseason, fans began climbing street lights down Broad Street.

One fan, however, sustained life-threatening injuries when he fell from a light pole on and corner of Broad Street and Market Street. In a video posted on online, the 18-year-old man was shown falling from a significant height. The end of the fall was obstructed by a crowd of people, but the scene was met with gasps and screams all around him.

Shortly after the incident, he was transported to Jefferson Hospital for a brain injury due to head trauma.

According to a report from 6ABC, the fan — who has not been identified — is on life support as of Tuesday.

Chris Caban, another fan who was there, described the scene.

“As soon as he hit the ground, literally the whole crowd was like, ‘Whoa,'” Caban said, “because he thudded so hard.”
