Trump Tweets That NFL Players Showing ‘Solidarity’ Is Great But ‘Kneeling Is Not Acceptable’

With NFL players engaging in widespread demonstrations today during the national anthem following President Donald Trump’s attacks on protesting athletes, the president took to Twitter to respond to the images of players, coaches, and owners locking arms in solidarity.

And his message was somewhat confusing.

Team owners and the league itself have condemned Trump’s harsh words towards players who kneel during the anthem to protest racial injustice. During the early slate of games today, a lot of players knelt during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner while many others stood arm-in-arm as a show of solidarity, including a player Trump considers a friend, Tom Brady.

While sending out the tweet about the demonstrations, Trump also tweeted about the NHL champs making a trip to the White House, obviously as a way to make a dig at the Golden State Warriors.
