James Comer Calls on Secret Service Director to Testify Before Congress Over Trump Assassination Attempt

House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) called on the director of the U.S. Secret Service to testify before congress after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Trump was shot in the at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday following a failed assassination attempt by a gunmen. The shooter and one rally attendee are reportedly dead with two other spectators injured.

In a letter released by the House Oversight Committee on Saturday evening, Comer asks Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to appear for a hearing set for Monday, July 22nd.

“I have already contacted the Secret Service for a briefing and am also calling on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to appear for a hearing. The Oversight Committee will send a formal invitation soon,” Come said in a statement on X.

“My prayers are with President Trump and the victims of the assassination attempt at today’s rally in Pennsylvania,” he continued. “I thank the brave Secret Service members who put their lives at risk to protect President Trump and for the American patriots in the audience who helped others who were hurt. Political violence in all forms is unamerican and unacceptable. There are many questions and Americans demand answers.”

The shooter was eliminated by Secret Service agents positioned near the rally after shots were fired at the former president. Moreover, agents rushed to Trump after he fell to the ground and helped up him before escorting him out of the event into a black SUV.
