Former President Donald Trump raged against the civil fraud case being brought against him in New York on Friday, deeming it a “Kangaroo Court Witch Hunt.”
“I hope everyone is watching the Kangaroo Court Witch Hunt taking place against me, led by a totally corrupt and Racist A.G., and a highly partisan Judge who made his decision before the trial even started, and before he knew anything about the case,” declared Trump on Truth Social. “Mar-a-Lago worth $18,000,000? Yesterday, a highly acclaimed finance EXPERT powerfully stated that I did NOTHING WRONG, AND THAT I BUILT A GREAT COMPANY. The case should be dropped. No business will ever move to New York after watching this charade, and many will be leaving. I was not allowed a jury. SO UNFAIR.”
“The Judge knows we are not guilty of anything but creating thousands of jobs and building a GREAT COMPANY!” he added.
Moments later, he restated his plea, urging the country to “WATCH THE TRIAL!!!”
Trump is scheduled to return to the witness stand to offer the final bit of testimony in the trial on Monday. He previously testified on November 6, when Judge Arthur Engoron threatened to throw him off the stand.
“I beseech you to control him if you can,” Engoron told Trump attorney Christopher Kise after Trump repeatedly launched into monologues rather than answering questions directly. “If you can’t, I will. I will excuse him and draw every negative inference that I can.”
Attorney General Letitia James’s case against Trump accuses the former president of exaggerating the worth of his and his company’s assets in order to secure favorable interest rates and loans.
Trump has insisted that the case is politically motivated, pointing to James’s promise to investigate him during her victory speech after winning her office in 2019.
“I will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his [Trump’s] real estate dealings, and every dealing, demanding truthfulness at every turn,” declared James at the time.
