Anderson Cooper’s CNN Panel Laughs Out Loud At JD Vance Claim Kids Are Going Trans to Get Into Harvard and Yale

During a recent interview with Joe Rogan, Senator JD Vance suggested that high school kids are transitioning genders to help them get into exclusive colleges like Harvard and Yale.

After Anderson Cooper played a clip of the Republican Vice Presidential candidate making this curious comment, his panel of AC360 guests could not contain their laughter Thursday evening on CNN.

The segment opened with Cooper playing a clip of Vance speaking to Rogan about “the normal gay guy vote,” who he thinks will support the Trump-Vance ticket before transitioning to his trans comment:

I wouldn’t be surprised if me and Trump won. Just the normal gay guy vote because again, they just wanted to be left the hell alone. And now you have all this crazy stuff on top of it. If you are a, you know, middle class or upper middle class white parent, and the only thing that you care about is whether your child goes into Harvard or Yale, Like, obviously that pathway has become a lot harder for a lot of upper middle class kids. But the one way that those people can participate in the D-I bureaucracy in this country is to be trans.

After the clip ended, the panel laughed out loud at the apparent absurdity of Vance’s suggestion, most notably by Van Jones. Cooper seemed equally amused and taken aback by Vance’s comments, saying, “So the idea that people are having, you know, surgery to get into these colleges, I listen. I mean, I know parents will go really far to get their kid into a good school.” He then noted how JD Vance got into Yale in part because of his unique background as a poor, rural kid from Ohio, which he detailed in his book.

Before his panel opined, Cooper couldn’t let the “normal gay guy” comment go either. “But also I also love that I guess gay people are now accepted by this one to me. At first I was like, J.D. Vance thinks there’s normal gay people. So I guess that this is this is that sort of progress. I’m curious to know what the difference — how where the line is between a normal gay person and a not normal gay person.”

“Assuming I can guess what it is like, you know, anything related to drag, I guess, in, you know, that drag, you know, wearing as much makeup as Donald Trump was, that would be considered not normal. It’s fine for Donald Trump, but on a gay guy, that wouldn’t be considered,” Cooper concluded.
