Andrea Mitchell to Pompeo on Trump’s Ford Tweet: Is That the ‘American Value’ We Should Be Teaching Women?

MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell spoke with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about North Korea and Iran this morning but also took a moment to bring up American values in the context of President Donald Trump‘s tweet about Christine Blasey Ford this morning.

“I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says,” the President tweeted, “charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!”

Mitchell brought up the tweet to Pompeo and asked, “Is that the American value that we should be teaching our women?”

“With respect to the confirmation process for Judge Kavanaugh,” he said, “I regret that this rose at the end. This was unfortunately sat on by a United States senator for weeks, as best I understand that, when there were confirmation hearings, a chance for Judge Kavanaugh to explain himself to them in private settings and in public settings. And instead a United States senator chose not to undertake that. I regret that, I think it’s unfortunate.”
