AWKWARD! Liz Cheney and Kevin McCarthy Have Very Different Thoughts on Trump and CPAC at Joint Presser

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is the highest-ranking Republican member of Congress. House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney is the third highest-ranking GOP member of Congress. They are nowhere close to being on the same page when it comes to the role that the former president should in the Republican party moving forward.

The Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) is holding its annual conference this weekend in Orlando, Florida, and former President Donald Trump is scheduled not just to speak at the event, but also to signal his return to a leadership role in the GOP.

In what can only be called an awkward ending to a joint press avail, an unidentified reporter asked both McCarthy and Cheney the same basic question: “Do you believe former President Trump should speaking at CPAC?”

Rep. McCarthy answered flatly, “Yes he should.”

Rep. Cheney answered quite differently, saying “That’s up to CPAC…I don’t believe that he should be playing a role in the future of the party or the country.”

Cheney was one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump for his role in the insurrection on Jan. 6. It is fair to say that she is not a fan of the former president.

The awkward silence that followed was broken with McCarthy joking “on that high note?” before dismissing the press conference to laughter.
