Bernie Sanders Explains Delayed Release of Tax Returns: ‘My Wife Does Most of It’
During Senator Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) CNN townhall on Monday, moderator Wolf Blitzer asked if he will release his tax returns this time around. Sanders said he would.
“What was the delay?” Blitzer asked.
“Well, you know, the delay is not — our tax returns will bore you to death. Nothing special about them. It just was a mechanical issue. We don’t have accountants at home, my wife does most of it. We’ll get that out,” Sanders explained.
“So when will we see your tax returns,” Wolf pressed.
“Sooner than later,” Sanders said.
“What does that mean,” the CNN anchor asked.
“Soon,” Sanders replied, “We have to just do a few more little things, but check they want them, but they’re ready,” adding he did not release his tax returns because he did not win the Democratic nomination in 2016.
“I don’t want to shock you, Wolf, they’re very boring tax returns,” he concluded.
Wolf also asked the independent senator why he hasn’t called Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro a dictator.
“I think it’s fair to say that the last election was undemocratic,” Sanders said. “But there are still democratic operations taking place in their country. The point is, what I am calling for right now is internationally supervised free elections.”
