Bill Maher Trashes Google and Facebook For Censoring Wuhan Lab Theory: ‘You Were Wrong!’
On Friday’s Real Time, Bill Maher unloaded on Facebook and Google for their handling of content related to Covid-19’s origins, as well as proposed treatments for the disease that are outside the medical mainstream.
Last month, Facebook ended its policy of removing posts that Covid-19 was manufactured just days after the Wall Street Journal reported that three researchers at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology became sick and were hospitalized in November 2019. It had been previously
Maher cited Facebook’s policy and pointed to a comment from the head of Google’s health division, who last month explained Google’s search engine doesn’t autofill searches for certain theories because the company does not want to be “leading people down pathways that we would find to be not authoritative information.”
“Well you were wrong, Google and Facebook,” said Maher. “We don’t know. The reason why we want you is ’cause we’re checking on this shit.”
As for “authoritative information,” Maher said, “The CDC’s been wrong about a lot shit. This is outrageous that I can’t look this information up.”
Elsewhere in the segment Maher said, “Liberals don’t want to say anything because [Chinese people are] Asian and [liberals] don’t think very clearly about this, so they conflate it with anti-Asian hate crimes here.”
He added, “One has nothing to do with the other.”
Maher also took issue with YouTube – whose parent company is Google – and its handling of content that suggests ivermectin could be a treatment for Covid-19. He said YouTube has threatened to remove podcaster Bret Weinstein from the platform for discussing the drug. Earlier this month, YouTube suspended Sen. Ron Johnson’s (R-WI) account for seven days, after he suggested ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine could treat the virus.
“YouTube should not be telling me what I can see about ivermectin,” said Maher. “Ivermectin isn’t a registered Republican. It’s a drug! I don’t know if it works or not, and a lot of other doctors don’t either.”
