Bill Nye to O’Donnell: GOP Uses Climate Change ‘Doubt’ to Fuel Denialism

Bill Nye “the Science Guy” joined Lawrence O’Donnell Monday night to react to his big debate with Republican congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, telling O’Donnell that one GOP tactic he notices very often is how they try to insert as much “doubt” as possible into the debate in order to give themselves the upper hand.

O’Donnell said that many politicians simply can’t view climate change from the scientific angle; for them, it always has to be politics, so “they hear what you’re saying in political terms and they don’t like it.”

Nye suggested Blackburn’s constituents “evaluate” her claims, warning of the serious impacts climate change will not just have on the climate, but on the economy. He said people need to “question what their representatives are telling them” and decide if they really want that person being their voice.

Nye added that people on the progressive side are “tired of fighting the same fight,” but they keep having to because Blackburn and other Republicans insert enough “doubt” into the argument to give themselves wiggle room to claim a political victory.
