Carson on Trump Abortion Flip-Flop: He Didn’t Have a ‘Chance to Really Think About It’
Ben Carson defended Donald Trump‘s abortion flip-flop today by saying he clearly didn’t have time to really think about it as he was being grilled.
After being pressed by Chris Matthews on the subject, Trump said he wants to see “some form of punishment” for women who get abortions. Hours later, he released a statement saying it’s abortion doctors who should face legal ramifications, not the women who seek them.
On CNN tonight, Carson said that’s clearly the true pro-life position. Erin Burnett asked him about the fact that Trump clearly flip-flopped.
“I don’t believe,” Carson said, “that he was warned that that question was coming, and I don’t think he really had a chance to really think about it. That happens very frequently.”
Carson said that it was for the best that Trump consulted with others and then came up with “a more rational and informed type of answer.”
