Chris Cuomo Mocks ‘Libertarian’ Rand Paul For Wanting Lie Detectors to Find Op-Ed Writer: ‘Crazy Days!’
CNN host Chris Cuomo mocked “libertarian” Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky after the lawmaker suggested the White House use lie detector tests in the White House to find the anonymous New York Times op-ed writer.
“Rand Paul asking for lie detector tests,” Cuomo said. “The libertarian — the libertarian! — Rand Paul wants lie detector tests in the white House to find the leaker. If that is not a metaphor for crazy days, I don’t know what is.”
As for Paul’s comments, the senator said the following about the op-ed controversy while on Capital Hill yesterday:
“I think it’s not unprecedented for people with security clearances to be asked to, whether or not they were revealing things against the law under oath and also by lie detector. We use a lie detector test routinely for CIA agents and FBI agents. I think if you have a security clearance in the White House, I think it would be acceptable to use a lie detector test and ask people whether they are talking to the media against the policy of the White House.”
Cuomo made the comments while discussing the “#Resistance” member within the White House with Republican Senator John Kennedy.
“When you’re in positions of authority, you have to [be able to trust people around you]. You’ve got to trust somebody,” Kennedy said. “If you reach the point that you don’t know who you can trust, then that impacts your ability to do the job.”
He continued:
“If a member of my staff did something like this and tried to remain anonymous, I would want to know who it was, but I would call in my staff and say, you know, speak truth to power here. Tell me, is this true? Do you share in this opinion? I’ve never in my life fired anybody for telling me the truth, and I never will.”
