Chuck Todd: Despite His Unpopularity, Trump Still ‘Winning’ in Some Key Areas

Chuck Todd opened this morning’s Meet the Press by saying that “despite his overall unpopularity, President Trump is winning and the Democrats right now are reeling.”

That’s not to say Trump is enjoying unequivocal success right now––Todd clarified that much of it is “superficial”––but the NBC News anchor said the chance for Trump to reshape the Supreme Court for generations only highlights what a good position he’s in.

Todd brought up Trump’s high approval ratings within the GOP, his attacks on the “fake news,” polls on the Mueller probe, and the economy as examples of areas where Trump is doing better than expected.

He said that some of this could “turn against him” eventually, but right now he said another big takeaway from the SCOTUS news is that “the Democratic party has not figured out how to succeed in the Trump era.”

About the last thing our politics can handle is an open SCOTUS vacancy and Kennedy’s seat no less. Let’s hope I’m wrong.
