On today’s MTP Daily, Chuck Todd went over the choice many Republicans have right now in responding to President Trump‘s Charlottesville remarks.
As Todd said, “The President’s actions today sent a pretty clear message to critics in his party: It’s time to choose. You’re either with him or you’re against him.”
Some Republicans are being more direct now in their criticisms of Trump, from Senator Tim Scott saying his “moral authority is compromised” to Senator Bob Corker slamming Trump’s lack of “competence” and “stability.”
But some Republicans, Todd noted, are most likely being hesitant because Trump still has enough of the base behind him.
Todd them spoke with Bill Kristol and former Republican Congressman J.C. Watts. The latter said the President “hurts our country when he does not speak with clarity about, you know, an issue that says pretty clearly two plus two is four, it’s not three.”
Kristol addressed the issue of whether people should be resigning from the White House, saying, “the serious ones should stay, they need to contain the damage.”
