Conservative Writer Noah Rothman Tells Tucker Carlson He’s ‘Advancing Pro-Assad Narratives’ in Intense Clash

Commentary‘s Noah Rothman dressed down Tucker Carlson by keeping calm and carrying on while Tucker raved that Rothman was a dilettante and a liar.

The two discussed the recent gas attack in Syria and how Carlson’s questioning whether Bashar al Assad was the perpetrator was inappropriate.

“As with the gas attack last year, last April, the secretary of defense who would know has not confirmed that we know the Assad government did it,” Carlson said. “So why am I unpatriotic for asking the same question?”

After claiming that he did not, in fact, call Carlson unpatriotic, Rothman explained: “Whether you know it or not, you are advancing pro-Assad narratives and you should check out Iran TV, PressTV, and the Kremlin-funded network RT to see the favorable coverage you are receiving.”

Rothman pointed to evidence from other investigations that strongly suggests Syria was responsible for this latest attack, and in response, Carlson pulled the passive-aggressive-let-me-take-out-my-glasses-to-read-what’s-in-front-of-me move and proceeded to patronize Rothman.

“I don’t want to be mean to you and I know you’re new at this,” he said as Rothman gave a wry smile. “What I’m saying is other groups on the ground, NGOs, fighters have said sarin has been used. [Secretary of Defense James Mattis said] I don’t have evidence credible or un-credible [of who conducted the attack] … Is he an agent of Putin too for saying that?”

“You are mischaracterizing his remarks,” Rothman said after some back-and-forth. “He is not calling into question the evidence that has been supplied to [investigators]. But if you do want to get into why it’s necessary to respond to these attacks in the American interests, not in some vague notions of morality, then we should talk about that because I agree that the American public has not been informed by the political class as to what American interests are at stake in Syria.”
