David Axelrod Mocks Trump Supporters: They Think ‘UNGA is What Happens When You Don’t Eat’
On Tuesday night, CNN commentator David Axelrod ridiculed the Trump base following President Donald Trump‘s address at the United Nations General Assembly.
Axelrod began by insisting that Trump’s speech “wasn’t meant for the people in that room” but for his supporters and the fact that he got ridiculed “may even be a certification” for them since he has blasted globalization and international organizations.
“I’m sure he didn’t like getting laughed at in that room, but on the whole, they wrote a speech to be provocative,” Axelrod said. “That was really for their base, people who think UNGA is what happens when you don’t eat, right? Not- they have no idea what UNGA is.”
That remark caused CNN host Don Lemon to chuckle.
The former Obama chief strategist then pivoted to Trump’s recent attacks on the accusations made against his Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh, saying it aligns with the “whole strategy of the Republican Party,” noting the speech made by Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). He also knocked Kavanaugh for remarks made during his Fox News interview that he doesn’t doubt that his first accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was sexually assaulted, suggested she was “confused” as well as Senate Republicans for scheduling a vote to confirm Kavanaugh on Friday morning, dismissing Thursday’s hearing as simply that must be checked off their list.
“So the disrespect isn’t just flowing from the president, it’s from the entire Team Kavanaugh operation,” Axelrod concluded.
