Democratic Rep: Fox News Should Fire Hannity, ‘His Word Can Never Again Be Trusted’

Democratic Congressman Gerry Connolly says that Fox News should axe Sean Hannity in light of the news that he was the mysterious client Michael Cohen was trying to keep quiet about.

Ever since Cohen’s office was raided by FBI agents last week, Hannity repeatedly defended President Trump‘s personal lawyer while calling the raid part of Robert Mueller‘s war on the White House. When Cohen appeared in court today to challenge the FBI over their seizure of his records, he ended up admitting he gave Hannity legal advice last year.

When Connolly spoke to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer about what this means for the investigations into Trump and his allies, the representative tore into Hannity for failing to reveal that he has a “conflict of interest” in this entire development. After calling the revelations a “big stain” for Fox and Hannity, he expressed his thoughts on what should happen next.

“I think they ought to fire Sean Hannity. He is so into this. Like a pig in the mud, he can’t get out of it and I think he deserves to be fired. His word can never again be trusted given the fact that he consciously did not reveal this relationship.”

When Blitzer brought up Hannity’s denial of any financial exchanges with Cohen (the one where Hannity admits he might’ve given Cohen a few bucks for attorney-client privilege), Connolly accused the Fox host of trying to have it both ways.

“If you are not a client, then you’re not entitled to client-attorney privilege. If you are entitled to that privilege, you are a client whether you paid money or not.”

Connolly concluded by saying Congress should “absolutely” review the Cohen matter, and that it’s “tragic” his Republican colleagues aren’t interested in doing oversight on the White House.
