Displaced 88-Year-Old Ukrainian Woman Laughs as She Recounts Telling Russian Soldier ‘F*ck Your Mother’
An elderly Ukrainian woman celebrated a small personal victory after her country’s forces pushed Russian troops out of her small town.
She laughed as she recounted to CNN’s Ed Lavandera how she told one of the men invading her country, “F**k your mother” on The Lead.
Lavandera, who was reporting from Odessa Thursday, shared a harrowing story of how civilians and military personnel worked together to repel a recent attack against a small community.
One Ukrainian soldier said superior Russian forces were routed in a battle for the town. A number of tanks were destroyed, and he claimed multiple troops were killed as well.
“We are strong,” the soldier, whose identity was protected, said. “Our city is strong, our spirit is strong. When the enemy came, everyone rose up from kids to the elderly.”
Lavandera reported civilians were hiding in areas where they could report Russian tanks to military units staged in the area.
The soldier told him, “They were powerful. They had tanks, they had APCs, a lot of wheeled vehicles, but we stronger, smarter, and more tactical.”
He also invited the Russians to come back. Asked by Lavandera if he is scared his enemy will seek revenge for being pummeled on the battlefield, the soldier said, “No.”
“It’s them who should be afraid,” he added. “They should know if they come here, they will remain here. We already have refrigerators for their bodies and we can bring more.”
Lavandera then introduced an 88-year-old grandmother named Vera who described her encounter with a Russian soldier she said robbed her and forced her out of her home.
With a smile, she told Levandera how she used her most potent weapon: her words.
“I come out from the kitchen and I said to him, sorry for the language, ‘F**k your mother,’” she said.
Vera added she also asked the soldier, “Has your Putin gone mad, firing at kids?”
