Fox News Anchor Speculates That Jon Stewart Mocked Biden Because Greg Gutfeld’s Show ‘Is Doing So Well’

Comedy Central welcomed Jon Stewart back to the anchor chair at The Daily Show on Monday, and Fox News was delighted to see the comedy veteran take shots at President Joe Biden. And one Fox News host wondered if he did that because he was now competing with their own “king of late night,” Greg Gutfeld.

After playing an out-of-context clip of Stewart going after Biden’s purported memory issues, Fox News host Dana Perino wondered out loud on Tuesday’s edition of America’s Newsroom:

Do you think The Daily Show decided to do this because Greg’s show is doing so well?

To which Fox News commentator Kennedy responded:

Absolutely. I definitely think that’s one of the factors. And, you know, I was watching the Emmy Awards recently, and Gutfeld! was left off the list where he’s besting these people not only in writing, but ratings. So, yes, they’re realizing that people in this country are frustrated.

It certainly is true that Gutfeld! is enjoying some good ratings — last week Gutfeld! averaged 2.3 million viewers and 328,000 in the 25-54 demographic and it recently beat its network competitors The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and CBS newcomer After Midnight in total viewership. However, it’s purely a matter of opinion whether or not the writing would qualify as Emmy-caliber. Here’s the clip of Gutfeld! that they played during this segment, which is a joke about numbers:

You know you’re in trouble when the percent of Americans who say you’re too old is actually higher than your age. We can’t get 86 percent of people to oppose murder.
